Player Storage
Unlike many consumer electronics products, BrightSign players have minimal built-in storage and typically require a separate storage device such as a microSD card.
USB drives are also supported including thumb drives, external hard drives, and external SSDs (solid-state drives). Many BrightSign players also support internal SSDs in the common M.2 form factor (more SSD info here).
Most users prefer using microSD cards as these are affordable, readily available, and insert neatly (no protruding cables / parts to contend with) into the player’s microSD card slot.
Due to the continuous usage many players experience, BrightSign-qualified microSD cards are recommended (more info here).
Storage Device Priority
If multiple storage devices are attached, the player will use the first storage device it finds based on the following order:
USB-connected storage
microSD card
M.2
microSD Card Formatting
microSD cards should be formatted as exFAT (recommended) or FAT32. This can be done using the DiskUtility app on a Mac or File Explorer on Windows (right-click on the drive representing the card and click “Format…”). The exFAT format is preferred as it avoids the 4GB filesize limit of the FAT32 filesystem. Cards 2GB or smaller will be FAT12 (aka “FAT”) and subject to its 2GB file size limit.
