HD600, HD2000, HDx10 FAQs

How do I update the OS on an HDx10 player?

To update the OS one of these legacy players, copy the update.rok firmware file onto an SD card (manually or using BrightAuthor) and power up or restart the BrightSign with that card. The player will automatically install the OS and restart when complete. Other content or playlists may be present on the flash card at the same time as the firmware update.

  • You can include an OS update when you setup a unit using BrightAuthor.

  • You can include an OS update when you publish a schedule.

  • You can copy the OS file directly to the root of the BrightSign's SD card using the Diagnostic Web server and then restart the player.

How can I expand display choices on my HDx10 players?

With the BrightSign USB Expansion Module, you can expand the interactive and audio potential of any display. The bi-directional GPIOs allow for the connection of up to 18 buttons or LEDs in a combination of your choosing (9 buttons and 9 LEDs, for example) to make any display more engaging. The digital and analog outputs support up to three simultaneous streams, enabling an immersive acoustic experience with flexible options. For example, you can link buttons (via the GPIOs) to the audio outputs, allowing users to listen to different audio sources on up to 3 speakers or headphones by pressing specified buttons. In addition, the optical SPDIF output provides even greater support for the A/V receivers.

See for more details.

Why does my HDMI-to-DVI adapter no longer work with my HDx10?

For HDx10 models, HDMI-to-DVI output is not supported on firmware versions after 3.10.40. If you need DVI output with your HDx10 model, you can download firmware version 3.10.40 (as well as the compatible 3.7.0.39 BA version) from the Legacy Product Resources page.

How do I create a playlist for a BrightSign HD600/HD2000?

A playlist is a simple text file, named autoplay.bsp, that includes the names of the files you want to play, in the order you want to play them. A playlist can also include special commands that control things like volume, video mode, the location of on screen zones. For step by step directions and demos, please check out the BrightSign Demos page and the User’s Guide.

Can I use BrightAuthor 4.0 or later with the HD210, HD410, HD810, HD1010, HD1010w, or TD1012?

No, these legacy models are only supported by BrightAuthor versions 3.8 and earlier.

How do I play content on the BrightSign HD600/HD2000?

  1. Copy your content (images, audio, video) to an SD card.

  2. Add an autoplay file (autorun.bas) along with your playlist (autoplay.csv or autoplay.bsp) that uses the copied content. You can download the autoplay file for the HD600/HD2000 from the Legacy Downloads page.

  3. Insert the SD into the player and power it up.

Note: If you just want to play a single video, name it autoplay.mpg or autoplay.vob, and copy it to the flash card along with an autoplay file (autorun.bas).

My video output isn’t showing up on my HD2000?

If you are looping a single video on the HD2000 without a playlist, the video must be named Autoplay.mpg or Autoplay.vob.

  1. Verify that the autorun.bas and the video are both in the root of the flash card.

  2. Verify you have the correct version of the autorun. The latest is 2.0.43, which requires 2.x software. If you are using firmware version 1.3.x, you need autorun version 1.3.07. HD600 requires autorun 1.1.7.

  3. Verify that there isn't another Autoplay file on the flash card (Autoplay.bsp or Autoplay.csv or autoschedule.txt)

  4. Set your PC to show file extensions and make sure that you did not accidentally name the AUTOPLAY.MPG file AUTOPLAY.MPG.MPG.

The video select button doesn't work on the HD2000 or HD600?

The video select button is not enabled on the HD2000. For the HD600, the video select button is disabled if you set your videomode in a playlist or script.

My HD600 or HD2000 doesn't recognize my CF card?

If BrightSign doesn’t see any content on your CF card, that card may not be compatible with the player, or there might be a bent pin in the CF card slot.

  1. Verify the card is inserted fully into the slot.

  2. Verify the content on the flash card is not in a sub folder, but in the root of the card.

  3. Check the CF slot for a bent pin.

  4. Reformat your CF card in FAT32 format.

  5. Try a different brand and/or size card.

My HD2000 isn’t booting up properly?

When the player turns on, it cycles through the Connector Activity and Video Mode lights. The only two lights that should remain lit at the end of the startup process are the Video Mode light, normally 1024x768, and the Power light.

  1. Try playing content from a different flash card, using a playlist.

  2. Try starting up the unit with no flash card inserted.

  3. Try a different power adapter with the unit.

  4. If the video connector lights are flashing three times together each time the unit boots, it means the player is trying to enter recovery mode for the BrightSign Network Manager. If you're not trying to use BrightSign Network Manager, please the autorun.bas file on the flash card along with your content.

How do I create a playlist for the HD110-HD1010?

  1. Open BrightAuthor and drag content from the media library to your playlist.

  2. Use the Browse button to change which folder's contents are listed under the Media library.

  3. Rearrange the files in your playback to the desired playback order

  4. Publish your playlist to a flash card.
