To create presentations with BrightAuthor and publish them to your player, you will need the following:

  • Windows PC

  • BrightSign player

  • Display

  • Storage device

  • Card reader/writer (optional if using USB storage)

  • Input device

Windows PC – Any Windows PC that meets or exceeds the following minimum requirements:

  • 2.3 GHz CPU

  • 2 GB RAM required (4 GB recommended)

  • 100 MB available hard disk space for program files (additional disk space required if storing content and/or presentations on your hard disk)

  • One of the following operating systems:

    • Windows Vista (32 or 64 bit)

    • Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit)

    • Windows 8 (32 or 64 bit)

    • Windows 10 (32 or 64 bit)

    • Windows 11

The following are recommended requirements:

  • Network connection (optional if publishing for Standalone)

  • Bonjour 2.0.4 or later 

  • DirectX 9.0 or later

BrightSign Player – Any of the following models:

  • XT244, XT1144

  • XD234, XD1034

  • HD224, HD1024

  • LS424

  • XT243, XT1143

  • 4K242, 4K1042, 4K1142

  • XD233, XD1033

  • XD232, XD1032, XD1132

  • XD230, XD1030, XD1230

Display – Any monitor, TV, or touchscreen with one of the following types of inputs:

  • HDMI®

  • VGA (on XDx32, HDx22, XDx30, HDx20 only)

  • Component (supported with a VGA converter on model lines with VGA) 

Storage Device – Any of the following:

  • microSD card (for XTx44/43, XDx34/33, HDx23/24, LS424/423 models) or SD card (for earlier models)

  • USB Flash Drive (supported on models with a USB port)

  • SSD (XTx44, XTx43, XDx34, XDx33 models only)

  • mSATA drive (4Kx42 models only)

Note

We recommend formatting your SD/microSD card using FAT32 or exFAT. The exFAT format allows you to store files larger than 4GB, but it is only supported on Series 4 (XTx44, XDx34) Series 3 (XTx43, XDx33, HDx23, LS423) players using firmware 6.2.94 or later. The NTFS format also allows for files larger than 4GB, but the player will not be able to receive network updates or generate logs.

Card Reader/Writer – Only required if using an SD/microSD card. The card reader/writer must be connected to your PC and must be compatible with your storage card.

Input Device – Required for interactive presentations only. Depending on the model, BrightSign players support one or more of the following types of input device:

  • Touchscreen equipped with a supported touch controller. See this link for a list of all supported touch controllers. 

  • BrightSign BP200 and BP900 USB button panels 

  • Many brands of USB keyboards 

  • Many brands of USB mice or trackballs 

  • Many brands of USB bar code scanners

  • Quadravox Serial Button Board

  • AMX, Crestron, and similar control devices

  • Any GPIO (open/close contact switch) button, signal, or LED (your custom board or LED display)

  • PC (via UDP or serial)

  • IR input/output devices using the NEC or Pronto Hex remote control protocols.
