Getting Started with bsn.Content

Initial Setup on bsn.Content

There are three main steps to setting up your players on bsn.Content for the first time:

  1. Preparing your players.

  2. Creating a Setup.

  3. Applying the Setup to your players. This is also known as provisioning.

Prepare your Players

  1. Set up your BSN.cloud account.

  2. Connect your players to the internet through Ethernet.

  3. Connect your player to the display screen through HDMI®.

  4. Power on your players with a blank microSD card.

  5. Select Activate Player on your BrightAuthor:connected dashboard and enter the Activation Code from the purple screen of your connected display (note that there are several methods to activate your player).

  6. Your player will now go through setup and reboot several times. When the process is finished, you will see a purple welcome screen.

Create a Setup

  1. Go to the Admin tab in BrightAuthor:connected and select Setup.

  2. In Player Settings, fill out Setup Name, Player Name, and Player Description.

  3. Set the Idle Screen Color to something other than black, so that you can see if the player is outputting a video signal.

  4. Select bsn.Content as the Publishing Mode. This type is only available if you have a bsn.Content subscription or are under the free trial period. The Group feature enables players to play different content and/or schedules based on groups that you create and assign. You can assign your player to a content group, or switch players between content groups after setup by selecting Default.

  5. Choose Add Setup to Library. This will take you to Player Setups. The setup type for your player should be BSN.cloud.

Provision the Player(s)

  1. Go to the Admin tab in BrightAuthor:connected and select Provision. Use the checkbox to select the player from the list.

  2. Select Apply Setup and select the setup file that you saved to your library.

  3. Apply Setup to the player(s) you want to update.

Updating Players to bsn.Content

Players configured for bsn.Content must be set up to receive content updates through BSN.cloud. If your player was previously set up with another Publishing Mode, you will have to change how it receives content updates. To do this:

Prepare your Player and Create your Account

  • To connect an existing BrightSign player to BSN.cloud for the first time, reset your player to Factory Default.

  • Format a blank microSD card to FAT32 or ExFAT and insert it into your player.

  • Activate your free bsn.Content trial through the BrightAuthor:connected Admin tab.

Create a Setup

  1. In BrightAuthor:connected, select Setup under the Admin tab.

  2. If you have not already done so, select Player Settings and fill out Setup Name, Player Name, and Player Description. Set the Idle Screen Color to something other than black, so that you can see if the player is outputting a video signal.

  3. Select bsn.Content as the Publishing Mode.

  4. Choose Add Setup to Library.

Publishing

BrightSign players support several methods for publishing content to players. This is known as a Publishing Mode. With a bsn.Content subscription, most users will opt for the bsn.Content Publishing Mode in which all content is stored on BSN.cloud and readily available to any internet connected player. However, users have the flexibility to choose an alternative Publishing Mode if desired. For more info, refer to this page on Publishing Modes.
