BrightSign players use LED flash sequences to indicate various types of errors. Flash sequences consist of a period of time in which the LED is off, followed by a number of equally spaced flashes, and then a return to the LED being off again. This sequence then repeats. The number of flashes indicates the error type.

Players with a single LED (e.g., LS, AU335) flash that LED rapidly during an OS update. This can be distinguished from an error code by the speed of the flashing - the flashes are too fast to count.
