Custom Roles let you maintain a digital-signage system with minutely tailored user roles and responsibilities across many locations.

Creating Custom Roles

Since there are many individual permissions, it is often easiest to base a Custom Role on one of the preexisting System Roles:

  1. In BrightAuthor:connected, go the Admin tab and select Role (you must be signed in to BSN.cloud).

  2. Go to the gear icon at the top right of the page and select Add Role.

  3. Enter a name and (optional) description for the role.

  4. You can copy all permissions from a selected role, or define the new role permissions from scratch.

  5. Select Add Role. Once the role has been created, you can select the check boxes to add or remove additional permissions.

Custom Roles Examples

Accountants

The user in charge of accounts payable needs to keep track of the invoices that are generated by BSN.Cloud. Since they are not otherwise involved in the digital signage network, create a Custom Role without copying permissions from a System Role, so all permissions are set to off. When the role has been created, turn on the necessary permissions.

Presentation Creators/Live Text Creators

The default Creators role can be subdivided if, as your organization grows larger, the responsibilities for content creation is divided. The easiest way to deal with slight variations in System Roles is to copy the permissions from the base Creators role and then customize the new roles.

For example, you can create both a Presentation Creators and a Live Text Creators role based on the default Creators role. To create Presentation Creators, copy permissions from the Creators System Role and deny full control to Live Text Feeds. To create Live Text Creators, copy permissions from the Creators System Role and deny full control to Content, Dynamic Playlist, and Presentation.

Senior Network Managers

If the Network Manager needs to add and edit schedules as well as maintaining the player network, modify the default permissions of the Network Manager to enable Add Presentation and Remove Presentation in the Schedule category. Because actions like adding and editing schedules are a composite of different operations, you will also need to enable Change Schedule in the Group category and Add Presentation and Remove Presentation in the Presentation category. You have now expanded the permissions of your Network Manager without enabling full control of an operations category.

If this user is not involved with content revisions and updates, do not give them control of adding or removing the presentations on a schedule.
